Q-med the makers and distributors of Restylane™ launched their new product Macrolane™ - designed for body sculpting in the UK in 2008. It is the first body shaping treatment using hyaluronic acid, which is a natural component of skin and is safe. It has been used in over 40,000 treatments in Japan over the last four years and so, like its facial counterpart, it has an excellent safety record.

It is based on Q-Med's unique patented NASHA™ technology, (Stabilized Non-Animal Hyaluronic Acid) which has been used in over 9 million treatments in over 70 countries worldwide. Use of NASHA has been clinically proven and well documented in facial aesthetics for over 10 years.

Macrolane is a smoother thicker gel which is designed to be placed under the breast tissue and lift it forwards enhancing the shape and fullness in a soft and natural manner. It can also be used to enhance the buttocks or the calves.

Macrolane can be used to naturally enhance small breasts, to help correct asymmetrical breasts or to help lift breast that are starting to droop.

Macrolane lasts from 12 to 18 months and then gradually degrades so to maintain the results a yearly top up is required.

The gel is temporary in nature and this can be seen as a negative, however for some patients the temporary nature of the treatment is a positive bonus.and appeals to those who are nervous of having surgical implants.

Macrolane treatments need to be ‘topped up’ roughly once a year to maintain results. This aspect allows us to vary the volume used to meet your own personal treatment, balancing up uneven sides and choosing to be a little bigger or smaller depending on how you want to look. Surgeons are limited to a selection of implants when performing breast enhancement. With Macrolane, we implant the gel exactly in the position it is needed with the exact volume you require. The aim is to adjust the treatment to enhance your own shape.

The procedure is performed in a minor surgical treatment room under full aseptic
technique. and takes roughly 30 to 45 minutes to complete.
A dressing is applied to the injection sites which needs to remain in place for 14 days. Expect some slight swelling, discomfort, bruising and tenderness for a few days and the breasts can feel very firm for 4 to 6 weeks until the overlying skin has relaxed a little. You will need to wear a close fitting support bra for 4 to six weeks.
