Sculptra previously known as New-Fill® was launched in the U.K. in the year 2000. It was rebranded under the new name Sculptra® in 2004 and is growing in popularity in the U.K. and Europe.

Used internationally since 1999, over 150,000 treatments have been carried out in more than 30 counties.
17,000 treatments have been performed with Sculptra® since 2005 in the UK.

Sanofi Aventis the distributors advise that Sculptra can help new collagen growth rather than just mechanically filling depressions. The product itself is not permanent but the effects can be long lasting. Sculptra® is used more as a sculpting agent rather than a wrinkle filler.

The advantage of Sculptra is that larger areas can be treated with a longer lasting result.
 Sculptra is made from Poly-L-lactic acid a synthetic polymer manufactured from lactic acid it does not require a skin test. ThePoly-L-lactic acid is completely broken down within the skin over a period of months, however the results (new collagen growth) can last for up to 3 to 4 years.

How Sculptra™ Works
Unlike surgical options, Sculptra™ can provide gradual, natural-looking results with less traumatic treatment. Sculptra™ works in the lower layers of the skin to smooth and firm the treated areas of the face.

The number of treatments required to achieve the desired affect depends on your age, how deep your wrinkles are, the amount of lift required and the amount of contouring you desire. 2-4 treatments are required for optimal results.

In contrast to some other treatments that require frequent refresher sessions, clinical trials indicate that Sculptra is effective for up to three years and in some cases longer.

After treatment, you should notice gradual results over the next several weeks.In general it takes approximately six weeks to see some affects and the effects continue to develop up yo a year after treatment sometimes even longer.

Side Effects:
Common effects at the site of injection include.
bleeding
tenderness
pain
redness
bruising
swelling
These side effects generally resolve in 2-6 days.

Less common reported side effects include nodule formation (small bumps) after injection. This is caused by too much product being injected too superficially in the skin. These small bumps may not be visible, and you may notice them only when you press in the treated skin. These bumps tend to happen within the first 6 to 12 months after the first treatment. Typically resolution is spontaneous, over a period of months. Nodules can be treated if required.

Localised reactions thought to be of a hypersensitivity nature have never been reported.
