Restylane® was launched in the UK in 1996.
Made and distributed by Qmed, Restylane is one of the most popular dermal fillers used in the UK and worldwide. The company stated that since 1996, more than 4 million Restylane treatments have been successfully carried out all over the world.
Restylane is a gel containing particles of cross linked hyaluronic acid similar to the body's own natural collagen. It is non animal in origin and does not require a patch test.
The hyaluronic acid is eventually broken down over the months leaving no trace of the product.
The gel is injected into the skin with a very fine needle, it plumps out the skin, filling lines, and deeper folds.
Restylane is a safe treatment.
Since Restylanes launch a range of products have been developed, using different particle sizes. There are now 5 products available which can be used in different parts of the face depending on the treatment required.
Restylane Touch has the smallest particle size in the Restylane product range. It is intended for the correction of very thin, superficial facial lines, especially those around the eyes and mouth
Restylane has an intermediate sized gel-particle and is specifically designed for the correction of moderate facial wrinkles e.g. forehead wrinkles, glabella lines, mild nose to lip furrows and lip enhancement.
Restylane Perlane has the largest gel particles in the Restylane product range and is intended for shaping the contours of the face, for correcting deeper folds and lip enhancement. e.g. Naso labial folds, marionette folds, cheek enhancement, chin and jaw augmentation.
Restylane Lipp has been designed for injecting into the lips and is structured to withstand the large amount of movements that occur in the lips from day to day.
It can be used for contouring the lip adding definition to different areas such as the cupids bow or the vermilion borders. It can also be used to add volume to the lips and reduce those smokers lines.
